Abstract

Hypertension is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality due to cardiovascular diseases worldwide. One of the factors contributing to increased blood pressure is insulin resistance. The Triglyceride Glucose Body Mass Index (TyG-BMI) is a simple indicator that can be used to assess insulin resistance through a combination of triglyceride levels, fasting blood glucose, and body mass index. However, studies examining the relationship between TyG-BMI and blood pressure, particularly in the Prolanis population in Indonesia, are still limited. This study aimed to determine the correlation between Triglyceride Glucose Body Mass Index (TyG-BMI) and blood pressure among Prolanis patients at Klinik Bunda, Banyumas Regency. This was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 84 respondents obtained from medical records of Prolanis patients at Klinik Bunda, Banyumas Regency in 2025 using purposive sampling. The analyzed data included triglyceride levels, fasting blood glucose, body mass index, and blood pressure. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Spearman correlation test. The mean TyG-BMI value of respondents was 218.99 ± 44.0. Most respondents were classified as having grade II hypertension (39.3%). The Spearman correlation test showed a significant relationship between TyG-BMI and blood pressure (p < 0.001) with a correlation coefficient of 0.369, indicating a positive correlation with weak to moderate strength. This suggests that higher TyG-BMI values are associated with higher blood pressure levels. There is a significant positive correlation between TyG-BMI and blood pressure among Prolanis patients at Klinik Bunda, Banyumas Regency. TyG-BMI can be used as a simple indicator to identify the risk of increased blood pressure associated with insulin resistance.
