Abstract

Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic respiratory problem with a high prevalence and has a significant impact on patients' quality of life. One of the main problems in both of these conditions is ineffective breathing patterns due to chronic hyperventilation. Buteyko's breathing technique is an effective nonpharmacological intervention to reduce hyperventilation, improve ventilation efficiency, and improve respiratory symptoms. The design used is a case study with a nursing care approach including assessment, diagnosis enforcement, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The main intervention was in the form of Buteyko breathing exercises as evidence-based practice (EBP). The application of buteyko breathing exercises has been shown to help reduce the rate of dyspnea, lower the MMRC scale, and improve the breathing rate of patients with respiratory disordersThe application of buteyko breathing exercises has been shown to help reduce the rate of dyspnea, lower the MMRC scale, and improve the breathing rate of patients with respiratory disorders. This intervention is easy to apply, does not require tools, and is effective as an adjunct therapy for nursing care for asthma and COPD patients. Nurses are advised to integrate Buteyko breathing exercises into routine nursing care for patients with respiratory system disorders to improve clinical outcomes and patient quality of life.
