Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women remains a major maternal nutrition problem in Indonesia and contributes to low birth weight, stunting, and maternal-neonatal complications. This study aimed to analyze the determinant factors associated with the incidence of CED among pregnant women in Mandiangin District, Bukittinggi City. A quantitative analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 130 pregnant women selected through consecutive sampling. Data were collected through mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measurement, structured questionnaires, and a food frequency questionnaire, then analyzed using the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. The results showed that 29.2% of respondents experienced CED. Education, family income, nutritional knowledge, dietary pattern, husband's support, iron tablet compliance, and antenatal care quality were significantly associated with CED (p<0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that inadequate dietary pattern was the most dominant determinant (OR=5.42), followed by low family income (OR=4.85), poor nutritional knowledge (OR=3.76), and low husband's support (OR=2.95). These findings indicate that CED is a multifactorial problem requiring integrated nutrition education, family economic empowerment, and improved antenatal care services to accelerate its prevention.
