Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia that significantly impacts patients' quality of life. Effective management requires patient self-care and dietary compliance. This study aimed to analyze the role of self-care management and dietary compliance as mediators of the effect of the Diabetes Education (DIA-EDU) application on the quality of life of DM patients. This study employed a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design, involving 90 respondents (3 x 30) with DM at Manyaran Community Health Center, Semarang, selected through purposive and total sampling. Data were collected using the DSMQ, PDQ, and DQoL questionnaires. Interventions were delivered via the DIA-EDU application over seven days. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and path analysis. The results showed that DIA-EDU significantly improved self-care management (p=0.000), dietary compliance (p=0.000), and quality of life (p=0.000). Path analysis revealed that self-care management and dietary compliance act as partial mediators in the relationship between DIA-EDU and quality of life. The DIA-EDU application is an effective non-pharmacological intervention to improve the quality of life of DM patients through improved self-care management and dietary compliance.
