Abstract

Malaria is a serious threat to society, especially in endemic areas. This disease causes material and mental losses, even various other negative impacts, including death. Epidemiological studies are needed to determine the distribution of malaria data variations that are useful for mapping the management of malaria infections sustainably. The purpose of this study is to conduct an epidemiological study of malaria in highly endemic malaria areas in remote areas. The study used secondary data at the Batom Community Health Center, Central Mountains, Papua. The research variables include gender, patient age, type of malaria parasite infection, and patient occupation. Data analysis used cross-tabulation of each variable to describe the number and percentage of each research variable. The results showed that male sufferers were higher than female sufferers with a ratio of 51.19% : 48.81%, the highest sufferers were unemployed individuals and students with a total of 34.75% and 22.18%. While the most common type of parasite was a mixed infection (Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax) with a value of 52.87%. The conclusion of this study is that epidemiological malaria studies provide useful information for mapping and further decision-making in malaria elimination efforts in highly endemic areas.
