Dinamika Regulasi Emosi pada Dewasa Awal yang Pernah Melakukan Self Harm

This study aims to examine the dynamics of emotion regulation in early adults who have a history of self-harm. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, involving three respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings show that self-harm behavior in all respondents was triggered by emotional pressures such as family problems, bullying, and lack of emotional support. The forms of self-harm included cutting, piercing, and hitting the body as a way to release emotions. Over time, the respondents began to develop better emotion regulation by shifting these behaviors into other activities such as self-care, eating, riding motorcycles, hiking, and even damaging objects as a form of emotional release. In addition, factors such as family environment, religiosity, personality, age, gender, and psychological condition were found to influence the emotion regulation process. Overall, the respondents showed positive changes toward more adaptive ways of managing emotions and reducing self-harm behavior.
