Abstract

Stress among adolescents is a growing phenomenon driven by academic demands and developmental changes. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 1 in 7 adolescents aged 10–19 years experiences mental health disorders, with school-related pressure increasing by 9% since 2018. In Indonesia, the prevalence of depression among students reached 2.0% (SKI 2023). Stress can lead to emotional disturbances, behavioral problems, decreased academic achievement, and increased risk of suicide. Prevention efforts can be carried out through education and improving knowledge of stress management. The low level of knowledge among students of SMPN 1 Bandar Lampung City, along with reported cases of suicide attempts, became the basis for this research. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge of stress management and stress levels among adolescents. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional research design. The population consisted of all 8th grade students of SMPN 1 Bandar Lampung City, totaling 343 students. A sample of 185 students was selected using proportional random sampling. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis (Chi-square test). The results showed that the majority of respondents had a moderate level of knowledge (63.6%), and experienced mild stress (57.1%). There was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge of stress management and stress levels among adolescents at SMPN 1 Bandar Lampung City, with a p-value of 0.001. Adolescents are expected to manage stress effectively, get adequate rest, and engage in positive activities according to their interests.
