Abstract

Hypertension is a growing global health problem, and housewives are a vulnerable group due to their sedentary lifestyle and high levels of stress. Data show a significant increase in hypertension cases in most regions of Indonesia. Community-based health education is a potential approach to improving behaviors that can sustainably prevent the recurrence of hypertension. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of community-based education in preventing the recurrence of hypertension among housewives, using a case study at Posyandu Holley, Sentani Health Center, Jayapura Regency, Papua. This study employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involving 34 housewives as respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and blood pressure measurements before and after the educational intervention. The data analysis technique used statistical tests to examine changes in respondents' behavior and blood pressure. This study found a significant improvement in behaviors related to preventing the recurrence of hypertension after the community-based education was provided. Blood pressure measurements also showed a meaningful decrease in most respondents. Community-based education is effective in improving behaviors to prevent recurrence and helps control blood pressure in hypertensive housewives. This intervention is recommended for widespread implementation in the community as a promotive and preventive effort against hypertension.
