Hubungan Etnis dengan Perilaku Penggunaan Tabir Surya pada Murid SMA Harapan 1 Medan

Ultraviolet (UV) light is light emitted by the sun that can reach the earth's surface. The effects that can be caused by UV exposure include pigmentation, erythema and photosensitivity. Continuous exposure of the skin to UV radiation can cause chronic or long-term effects such as premature aging and malignancy or increased risk of skin cancer such as melanoma. Most premature aging and skin cancers can be prevented with the consistent use of effective sun protection strategies, including the application of broad-spectrum sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, seeking shade, and avoiding tanning. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the use of sunscreen to protect the skin from direct sunlight. To determine the relationship between ethnicity and behavior of Harapan 1 Medan high school students towards the use of sunscreen. This study is an observational analytical study, applying a cross-sectional research method. The study was conducted on students of SMA Harapan 1 Medan using a questionnaire. The analysis test used was chi-square. There is a significant relationship between ethnicity and sunscreen use (p = 0.004) in students of SMA Harapan 1 Medan. The behavior of sunscreen use is not only determined by individual factors but is also influenced by the social, cultural, and environmental context of the ethnicity concerned.
