The Relationship Between the Degree of Severity of Acne Vulgaris and the Level of Self-Esteem in Students of Private High School Muhammadiyah 02 Medan

Acne vulgaris is often seen on the face which increases a person's self-esteem problem. This study aims to see whether there is a relationship between the severity of acne vulgaris and the level of self-esteem in students of Muhammadiyah 02 Medan Private High School. This study involved 88 student subjects who had acne vulgaris. It is a descriptive analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The collected data were analyzed using the Chi square test. The findings of the study explain that the proportion of the severity of acne vulgaris based on gender is dominated by moderate severity acne vulgaris with male gender, namely 22 people (19.9%). The proportion of the severity of acne vulgaris based on age is dominated by mild severity acne vulgaris aged 17 years (22.3%). The proportion of the level of self-esteem of the majority is in the normal category with a total of 36 people (40.9%). There was a significant relationship between the severity of acne vulgaris and self-esteem levels (p=0.029). The conclusion of this study explains that there is a significant relationship between the severity of acne vulgaris and self-esteem levels in students at Muhammadiyah 02 Medan Private High School.
